25m Pistol

Google image

Formerly known as Sport Pistol, 25m Pistol women’s event was introduced in the 1960s. Internationally, 25m Pistol is only shot up to, and including the Olympics by women, and up to and including the Paralympics by men and women, and by juniors at the World Championships. In Australia the event is also shot by men at many clubs and state competitions. The pistol used in this event must have a barrel no longer than 150mm and a trigger no lighter than 1000g and must use .22LR ammunition only.

25m Pistol is a 60 shot match.

25m Pistol has the exact same course of fire as the competition Centrefire Pistol, except the competitor uses a .22 rimfire pistol.

25m Pistol combines both precision and rapid-fire, in two stages, each of 30 shots

Course of fire:

Precision Stage
Number of shots/time: 30 shots, in six series of 5 shots, each series is 5 minutes and shot on a Precision target.

After all competitors have completed the Precision Stage, they then fire the Rapid Fire Stage on a Rapid Fire target.

Rapid Fire Stage
Number of shots/time: 30 shots, in six series of 5 shots.

Each series consists of 5 exposures of the target, each exposure is for 3 seconds; the shooter fires one shot per exposure.

Below are some examples of the types of .22LR (Rimfire) pistols that would typically be used for 25m Pistol. Although the competition allows for a large variety of .22LR pistols ranging in design, makes, models and applications, we highly recommend our members seek pistols that are specifically designed for ISSF competitions. You will find that these pistols will typically have an orthopedic grip, are extremely accurate, have adjustable sights, an adjustable trigger, and are very “shoot-able” compared to other firearms on the market that have been designed for more practical use, or other specific competitions. Although ISSF specific pistols may not look like something people would consider “cool”, they’re the best tools for the job and that is the most important thing. You wouldn’t play Tennis with a Cricket bat, and the same applies with Target Pistol Shooting; having the right tool for the job is crucial if you wish to get the most out of your shooting. Prices range from $3,500 brand new, to as little as $1000 or less second hand. There are pistols that have been around for many years that you can pick up for $500 that would serve your needs well.
